A UPI payment link opens a UPI app on a phone with the payee, amount and note already filled in. It is handy for invoices, shop counters, WhatsApp and social media.
Enter your UPI ID and, if you like, a name, amount and note. The tool builds the upi://pay link and encodes the values correctly.
A UPI link is a URI using the upi scheme and the pay path, followed by query parameters defined by the NPCI linking specification. This tool writes pa for the payee address, pn for the payee name, am for the amount, cu for currency, tn for the note and tr for a transaction reference. Values are percent encoded, the amount is shown with two decimals, and the currency is always INR. A link with pa set to shop@bank, an amount of 499 and a note becomes upi://pay?pa=shop%40bank&am=499.00&cu=INR&tn=...
How the link behaves depends on the app the payer uses. Most UPI apps open a payment screen with fields filled in, but some may ignore parameters such as the reference, and some let the user edit the amount. Personal accounts and merchant accounts are treated differently by some apps, and payment links with a fixed amount for business use can be restricted in certain apps or flows. Because the link carries no proof of payment, always confirm receipt in your bank or UPI app, and use reference values only as a hint when reconciling.
