A wa.me link follows the pattern https://wa.me/ followed by a phone number and, optionally, a text parameter. The number must be in full international format, meaning country code plus national number, with no plus sign, brackets, spaces or leading zeros. The international numbering standard E.164 limits numbers to 15 digits including the country code, which is why this tool accepts between 6 and 15 digits and shows an error outside that range.

The message goes in the text query parameter and must be percent-encoded, so a space becomes %20 and a question mark becomes %3F. Encoding matters because characters like ampersand and hash would otherwise end the parameter early. When a visitor opens the link, WhatsApp on their phone or the web version starts a chat with that number and fills in the message, which they can edit before sending. The link does not verify that the number is registered with WhatsApp.

Tips

• Test the generated link on a phone before publishing it. Open it from a message or browser to confirm that the number is correct and the pre-filled text reads well.
• Keep the pre-filled message short and neutral, for example a product name or question. Long text can look odd in the input box and visitors may not bother to send it.
• Remember that the link exposes the phone number to anyone who sees it. Use a business number rather than a personal one when placing the link on public pages.
